    Who We Are:

    Zealous Schools (www.zealousschools.org), a non-profit, independent, micro-school (grades 6-8) in the Vail Valley. In short, we’re all about passionate people with contagious curiosity. We have a different spirit of adventure than most schools: our classes have us knee deep in a stream one day, learning physics on the bike trail the next, and writing our own comic books another. We believe that when students are pulled to learn through something they are passionate about, they don’t have to be pushed. Our vision is to create a better world through compassionate education. Our mission is to gently guide a community of students in becoming healthy citizens, critical thinkers and zealous learners.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Embody the characteristics that Zealous Schools wishes to uphold: zealous learner, critical thinker, healthy citizen.

    • Employment Calendar: mid-August to late June.

    • Teach 1-3 classes per day (pending block schedule) in a 6:1 student: teacher ratio.

    • Lead a morning activity (physical education) one day per week.

    • Serve as an advisor for a group of students and their families, including regular communication, problem solving, and hosting student-led conferences.

    • Collaborate with AC team members and Campus Director weekly to assist with administrative duties.

    • Assist in student arrival and departure, transitions between class blocks and lunch periods.

    • Lead one afterschool program that you’re passionate about, per year

    • Bring your passion to the forefront: create unique programming / curricula that you love to teach while increasing our students’ level of engagement and driving our students’ success. Bring the stoke every day.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Experienced teacher having provided direct instruction (formal or informal) to students specifically middle or high school ages, for a minimum of 2 years

    • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a subject specific related field (math, science, social studies or language arts)

    Compensation:

    Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Salaries will start at $50,000 per year.

    Desired Experience:

    • Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certified

    • First Aid & CPR Certified

    • AVI 1 or 2 Certified

    • Background teaching outdoors / environmental education / expeditionary learning / place - based education
