The Zealous Student

There is no well defined “Zealous Student,” because at Zealous we believe in meeting every child where they are — from their emotional well being to the academic. Our student body has knocked out some huge projects, from building their very own guitar to organizing kickball tournaments for charity. They have produced amazing work, written novels, and designed experiments. And in the process they’ve built a wholesome and supportive community of learning.

A typical week includes dedicated independent work time, an increased focus on academic freedom, and the opportunity to pursue projects that students are passionate about. Some students naturally navigate these types of environments better than others, but we believe that every student has an innate sense of purpose and drive if they’re connected to and invested in their learning. We encourage any student or child who is struggling or dissatisfied with their current educational offerings to reach out and see if Zealous is a fit for your family and future goals.

Curriculum Highlight

At Zealous Schools, student passion is the name of the game. We pride ourselves on what we’ve dubbed “passion-based-education.” Building on the Colorado State Standards, we dovetail our curriculum with student interest and offer a rotating and evolving curriculum year after year that ebbs and flows with our student body. As much as possible, we create opportunities to actively learn in dynamic environments — whether that’s doing the math to find out how fast racers are crossing the finish line at Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey races or asking the mayor probing questions during a trip to city hall — and build those experiences based on the needs and interests of our student body. During “Zealous Project Learning,” periods, we put our own spin on project learning’s promise of challenging problems to test one’s aptitude. And every Wednesday students are asked to pursue an independent project during their “passion time,” where in the past students have built guitars, rode horses, explored the notions of grief after a loss, and much, much more in pursuit of their individual curiosity. If you’re curious about this year’s curriculum, contact us to learn more.

Parent of current Zealous student

“Zealous School is an innovative academic game changer. Our son was extremely frustrated in his previous traditional school, but now he is excited and happy to learn in Zealous School’s inspirational and trailblazing environment. A perfect balance exists between pursuing personal interests and individualized learning, while still focusing on core studies. The academic coaches are extremely talented and enthusiastic, and the small class size ensures that students get plenty of attention from them. Instead of sitting in rows of desks all day, students are actively challenged by new activities in the great outdoors, in their unique class setting, and beyond. Fridays in the Field offer fantastic and fun learning opportunities locally and in Denver, Leadville, and Steamboat. Zealous School goes where no local school has gone before!”

The Eagle Location

Welcome to 1160 Capitol! Our building has given us the opportunity to create a fully realized, place based curriculum. The central location of Eagle Ranch is a 5 minute bike ride (a main mode of transport at Zealous!) from the Eagle Library, fishing pond, Brush Creek, BLM, bike trails, and more — making it easy to find an outdoor classroom no matter the topic. Huge windows bring natural light throughout the day, while an open floorplan and creative use of space allows students to find independent reading nooks, group collaboration stations, or the right resources needed to complete the task at hand, whether that’s our 3D printers or a trip to the woodshop. The spaces where students learn are of utmost importance, and our building helps us to pursue our mission everyday that it’s inhabited.

Pricing

As a tuition-based independent school, fees for the school year are $17,000. We believe that the value of a Zealous education far outweighs that monetary figure, and we encourage interested families to reach out to learn more about payment plans and scholarship opportunities by visiting the admissions page.

The Coaches

Zealous’ “Academic Coaches” play many different roles for your student at school. From subject area teachers, to advisors, to actual coaches, support systems, and community, there’s not a lot of room to “fall through the cracks” at our school. With a coach to student ratio of 1:6, our staff have ample time and availability to connect with your students and to develop meaningful relationships with them. Each of our coaches have extensive backgrounds and degrees in the education field, and are as passionate about teaching as our students are about learning. To learn more about our current group of “ACs,” check out our staff bios page here.

Tracy, Parent of current Zealous student

“From the moment my 8th grade daughter walked into the doors of Zealous, she knew she wanted that experience. Coming from public schools, tuition was a sticker shock and I really wanted to know she would get measurable results. Since she has attended Zealous, her confidence, time management and articulation have been finely tuned. The community that is fostered with the coaches and students is inclusive and respectful. It is so nice to see kids encouraging each other. Zealous is worth every cent!”
